Instructions:

  1. Pop the popcorn: You can use store-bought plain popcorn or pop about 1/3 cup of kernels to get 8 cups of popcorn. Spread the popcorn out on a large baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  2. Melt the white chocolate: In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the white chocolate chips or candy melts in 20-second intervals, stirring between each, until fully melted and smooth.

  3. Add peppermint extract: Stir in the peppermint extract into the melted chocolate.

  4. Coat the popcorn: Drizzle the melted white chocolate over the popcorn evenly. Use a spatula or your hands (wear gloves for less mess) to gently toss the popcorn, making sure it's well-coated.

  5. Add the peppermint crunch: Sprinkle the crushed peppermint candies or candy canes over the popcorn while the chocolate is still warm and sticky. Toss again to distribute the crushed candies evenly.

  6. Add the savory touch: If you're going for sweet-and-savory, sprinkle sea salt over the popcorn at this point. If desired, melt the butter and drizzle it over the popcorn for extra richness.

  7. Let it set: Let the coated popcorn sit for 10–15 minutes, or until the chocolate hardens. You can refrigerate it for a few minutes to speed up the process.

  8. Optional decorations: For a festive touch, add some red and green sprinkles on top before the chocolate fully sets.

  9. Serve and enjoy: Once the chocolate is set, break up any large clumps and serve your Sweet-and-Savory Peppermint Popcorn!
