Ingredients:
- 8 cups of popped popcorn (plain, unsalted)
- 1 cup white chocolate chips (or white candy melts)
- ½ teaspoon peppermint extract
- ½ cup crushed peppermint candies or candy canes
- ½ teaspoon sea salt (optional, for a savory touch)
- 2 tablespoons butter (optional, for extra flavor)
- Red and green sprinkles (optional, for decoration)
Instructions:
-
Pop the popcorn: You can use store-bought plain popcorn or pop about 1/3 cup of kernels to get 8 cups of popcorn. Spread the popcorn out on a large baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
-
Melt the white chocolate: In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the white chocolate chips or candy melts in 20-second intervals, stirring between each, until fully melted and smooth.
-
Add peppermint extract: Stir in the peppermint extract into the melted chocolate.
-
Coat the popcorn: Drizzle the melted white chocolate over the popcorn evenly. Use a spatula or your hands (wear gloves for less mess) to gently toss the popcorn, making sure it's well-coated.
-
Add the peppermint crunch: Sprinkle the crushed peppermint candies or candy canes over the popcorn while the chocolate is still warm and sticky. Toss again to distribute the crushed candies evenly.
-
Add the savory touch: If you're going for sweet-and-savory, sprinkle sea salt over the popcorn at this point. If desired, melt the butter and drizzle it over the popcorn for extra richness.
-
Let it set: Let the coated popcorn sit for 10–15 minutes, or until the chocolate hardens. You can refrigerate it for a few minutes to speed up the process.
-
Optional decorations: For a festive touch, add some red and green sprinkles on top before the chocolate fully sets.
-
Serve and enjoy: Once the chocolate is set, break up any large clumps and serve your Sweet-and-Savory Peppermint Popcorn!
Storage:
If you can not eat all immediately it can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
