Salt Dough Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of plain flour
  • 1 cup of salt
  • 1 cup of water (add gradually)

Instructions:

  1. Mix the Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt.
  2. Add Water: Slowly add water, mixing until the dough comes together. Knead the dough until it's smooth and pliable (about 5-10 minutes).
  3. Roll Out the Dough: Use a rolling pin to roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thick on a lightly floured surface.
  4. Cut Shapes:
    • Bell: Use a bell-shaped cookie cutter or freehand cut a bell shape.
    • Tree: Use a Christmas tree cookie cutter or freehand cut the shape.
    • Glove: Freehand a glove shape or use a mitten cutter.
    • Snowflake: Use a snowflake cutter for intricate designs or cut out basic star-like shapes and add details with a toothpick.
  5. Make Holes for Hanging: Use a straw or skewer to make a small hole at the top of each ornament if you want to hang them.
  6. Bake: Preheat your oven to 120°C (250°F). Place the ornaments on a baking tray lined with parchment paper and bake for 2-3 hours, or until completely dry and hard.

Painting and Decorating:

Materials:

  • Acrylic paint (for base colors)
  • Glitter paint or glue mixed with glitter
  • Paintbrushes
  1. Base Coat: Once the salt dough ornaments are completely cooled, paint them with acrylic paint in your desired colors (e.g., green for the tree, white for the snowflake, etc.). Let them dry.
  2. Glitter Paint: Once the base coat is dry, use glitter paint to add sparkle. Apply the glitter to specific areas or cover the entire ornament, depending on the look you're going for. You can also mix glitter into glue and brush it on if you don’t have glitter paint.
  3. Dry: Allow the paint and glitter to dry completely.
  4. Add a String: Once the glitter paint is dry, thread a ribbon or string through the hole to hang the ornaments.

Now you have beautiful, glittery salt dough ornaments to decorate your tree!
