Channel 4 is delivering a brand-new festive film this Christmas Eve with Finding Father Christmas, a heartwarming standalone TV movie set to air on Wednesday 24 December at 7:30pm.
Designed as a one-off feature-length Christmas film rather than a series, Finding Father Christmas blends family comedy, emotional storytelling and festive magic, making it ideal viewing for Christmas Eve.
🎬 What Is Finding Father Christmas?
Finding Father Christmas is a feature-length television film — a complete story told in a single festive special. It runs at approximately 90 minutes and is aimed at a broad family audience, combining humour with warmth and heart.
The film was originally developed under the working title Dear Father Christmas and has been created as one of Channel 4’s headline festive offerings for 2025.
🎄 The Story
At the heart of the film is Chris, a 16-year-old boy who still wholeheartedly believes in Father Christmas — and refuses to let go of that belief, even as the world around him grows increasingly sceptical.
Chris’s determination puts him at odds with his dad, who has long since stopped believing. When Chris sets out on a mission to prove that Father Christmas is real, his journey becomes more than just a festive adventure — it turns into a heartfelt exploration of belief, grief, hope and the bond between parent and child.
Along the way, Chris teams up with his cousin Holly and encounters a delightfully eccentric group of experts who may—or may not—hold the answers he’s searching for. As Christmas Eve approaches, the film builds toward a touching reminder that sometimes belief matters just as much as proof.
🌟 Cast Highlights
The film features a strong ensemble of familiar British faces:
-
Lenny Rush stars as Chris, bringing warmth, sincerity and humour to the central role.
-
James Buckley plays Chris’s father, offering a grounded and emotional counterbalance to his son’s unshakeable belief.
-
Greg Davies, Asim Chaudhry and Rochenda Sandall appear in key supporting roles.
-
The cast is further boosted by appearances from Stephen Fry, Hannah Fry, Dame Maggie Aderin-Pocock and Jason Fox, who play a memorable group of unconventional experts Chris meets on his journey.
The mix of comedy performers and respected personalities gives the film both laugh-out-loud moments and emotional depth.
✨ Why It Stands Out
Unlike many festive dramas, Finding Father Christmas leans into the idea that believing in Christmas magic doesn’t have an age limit. It’s a story about holding on to wonder, reconnecting with loved ones, and rediscovering the joy of the season — even when life has made that difficult.
Channel 4 has positioned the film as one of its flagship Christmas Eve broadcasts, offering something original and uplifting for viewers settling in ahead of Christmas Day.
